When I walk barefooted

From the land I was made; a mixture of soil and water.
I am a work of art brought to life by a single breath of air.
Essentially, you would say I am a combination of soil, water and air – the components of nature that has been described as abiotic (non-living) yet the essential make up ingredients for a biotic organism, me!

With this single breath, I became alive and I was told I am created in the image of the Almighty!
Bearing His image!
Given dominion! Yet, appointed a steward of the earth resources (Gen 2:15).

That I was given dominion is no guarantee that I should exploit that which is in my care.
That I am the image of God gives me both the privilege and duty to extend his sustaining love to all of creation by remembering that the earth belongs to God and it is His love gift to his Son (Colossians 1:15-20).

Yet, this title of being made in God’s image has made man rather too full of himself and he has disregarded the land from whence it was made and to which he shall return (Gen 3).

Do you walk barefooted?
Do you know that the simple act of just walking barefooted connects us to the earth?

This brings to mind the bushmen tribe of the Kalahari desert who walk graceful with no foot gear in their homelands.
I can also remember the action of the main actor of an old movie titled “the Gods must be crazy”, where after he had hunted an animal, he spoke to it, apologizing and telling it why he had to hunt it.

Remembering the movie, now made me understand what he was doing. This is because, he (the bushman) feels connected and part of the earth, he felt he had no right to even hunt these animals but because of his needs and that his family, he just had to hunt them.

The people of the bushmen tribe have been described to have a profound connection with the land, they possess an intimate knowledge of their natural world which enables them maintained the delicate balance between theirselves and the land.

And I want to believe that their simple act of walking barefooted is an act to connect even more with the land.

Walking barefooted has also been described to promote good health because when you walk barefooted, your energy re-alligns with that of the earth and has been described as Earthing.

Whenever I am at home, I ensure I walk barefooted and during the times I do, not only do I move swiftly taking care of my chores, I get to be refreshed at the same time.

So, will you try walking barefooted (at least at home!) and tell me how you feel?
